Being Ignored? Or not?

Hi guys! Today’s post is about the times when your dog ignores you. It can be pretty frustrating when your dog doesn’t do what you want him/her to do. But is your dog really ignoring you, or not?

Even if your dog knows a command (let’s say ‘roll over’) it doesn’t mean that your dog will do it every time you ask him/her to. If your dog did it four out of five times one day, it doesn’t mean he will do it four out of five times  the next day. You can’t expect your dog to get something down right away. So in this case, your dog is NOT ignoring you. You and your dog just need to practice the command more. (Dogs want to please us, so they are trying to learn how to do a trick/command. Patience and positive reinforcement is the key to perfection.)

Remember the times you would go to the park and your dog would chase squirrels or rabbits instead of coming to you? Pretty frustrating right? In this case, your dog is ignoring you. But this can be fixed with training and patience. Just because your dog isn’t listening to you because he/she is chasing an animal it doesn’t mean he is ignoring you on purpose. He/she is chasing after that animal because currently its the more interesting thing to do!

What can you do to make your dog listen to you more often?

The answer is simple. Training your dog and practicing the commands you taught him/her will make your dog do those commands consistently- Even when there is a squirrel in the vicinity! Also, strengthening the bond with your dog helps.

I hope you guy’s enjoyed this post! If you have a suggestion for my next post, please let me know in the comments!
