Retrievers and what to expect

Okay, I admit, I did a little much on grooming retrievers in my first post, so I’ll just be writing about their temperaments, coat colors and breeds. (A seperate post will be on training!)

Retrievers are active and friendly. Taking your retriever on daily walks is necessary for their health. Retrievers will happily come with you on hikes and adventures. Playing with your retriever will also help exercise him/her.

Their coat colors are pretty much all shades of golden. Golden retrievers are best known for their beautiful coats. To read more about caring for their coats, read my first post!

There are many, many breeds of retrievers out there so here are some of the main ones:

Flat-coated retriever: These dogs love to play! Even as they get older, they still hold traces of their love to play. These dogs instinctively hunt for ducks since they were trained to do this. Their average lifespan is 8-10 years. To read more check out: Flat-Coated Retriever Puppies For Sale – AKC PuppyFinder

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers: These dogs are mellow around the house and love to play outdoors! They shed seasonally so you will  need to groom them weekly. Their average lifespan is 10-13 years. Check out: Chesapeake Bay Retriever Puppies For Sale – AKC PuppyFinder

Curly Coated Retrievers: These dogs are super smart! They also enjoy playing outside and swimming. These dogs live for about 10-12 years. More at: Curly-Coated Retriever Puppies For Sale – AKC PuppyFinder

And of course, the Golden Retriever: These dogs are friendly and outgoing. They love going outside and will be your friend for life!

  1. The distinctions between the retrievers are interesting. Are some more popular in the US? or in regions of the US?
